Lives in Silicon Beach. Works everywhere.
Right now, I'm thrilled to be editor-in-chief at Blue Zones, the company that identified the five blue zones of the world (longevity hot spots with the longest-living people) and used this research to create the country's largest preventive health project. Learn more in the Blue Zones docuseries out on Netflix now.
I've been a managing editor, editorial director, food editor, and restaurant reviewer. I'm always a writer. I've been on staff and/or consulted for numerous organizations including The New York Times Company, USA Today, Sotheby’s, Dining Out, and Yahoo.
I have roots in both publishing (words on paper) and tech (I wrote some of my earliest online restaurant reviews in HTML!). Straddling these worlds, I've launched some of the most successful magazines and fastest-growing websites in the market. I'm also experienced reaching and engaging hard-to-reach audiences (niche, underserved, millennial).
THINGS I DO
BOOKS
Cooking with Gochujang: Asia's Original Hot Sauce was published by Countryman Press and came out to great reviews.
The Essential Wok Cookbook, released in May 2015, was a Wall Street Journal and Amazon bestseller.
Seoul Food Korean Cookbook came out in September 2015 and was an Amazon and Apple iTunes bestseller.
Ramen Obsession came out October 29, 2019 and was an instant bestseller.
CONSULTING
I sometimes work as a consultant to big brands and tiny, scrappy start-ups. I only work with mission-driven brands that align with my purpose: to inspire people to live better lives. (Fine print: I get a ton of emails and pitches every day, so although I try to keep on top of my inbox, I probably won't respond if your company markets fast food or energy drinks to children.)
When I have a demanding full-time gig (like right now), I take on very few projects a year. Learn more about that here.

Flashlight Exhibit: Celebrating Black America in Children's Literature
I had the great honor of curating the historic Flashlight exhibit at the Mayme Clayton Museum in Los Angeles in 2017, which was the first-ever exhibition to explore the African-American experience through children’s literature.
